It may have taken four games, but the Fanshawe Falcons finally have points on the board.
After dropping their first three decisions the Falcons knocked off Conestoga 3-2 thanks to an own goal off a Condors defender late in the 2nd half.
Fanshawe head coach Paul D’Hollander was relieved to have survived the crazy final minutes of the game and says this win is a big one for the team.
“We’ve been playing better each game and we needed to get three points underneath our belt and I think this will give the guys a lot of confidence.”
D’Hollander adds that the thing he most wants his team to improve on isn’t skill-based.
“Just believing in themselves. We have a lot of energy. We have a lot of character. We have some strong senior leadership on the team, and ultimately it’s believing that they can compete with the best in the province and in Canada.”
The Falcons finished in a three-way tie for first in the OCAA West Division before losing in the OCAA Bronze Medal match. This year they sit 1-3 at the halfway point, and D’Hollander hopes that this win can jumpstart the team as they head towards the postseason.
