The wins keep coming for the Western Mustangs softball team.
The Mustangs are now 16-0 to start the regular season after outscoring Guelph by a combined 27-0 in back-to-back games. Remarkably, the last time the Mustangs lost a regular season game was over a year ago on September 27th, 2013.
Senior infielder Shannon Davidson says the reason the team is so successful is how well they get along.
“Regardless of if it’s on the diamond or off the diamond, we’re always hanging out, always enjoying our time,” Davidson says. “I think because we work so well as friends, it just follows on the diamond.”
“They play against themselves in practice, they work hard, they challenge themselves, and when they get a chance to show what they can do, you see what happens,” says head coach Pete Lemon. “They’re just a good bunch of quality ballplayers.”
Next up, the Mustangs take on Waterloo on Friday. It will be the team’s final weekend of the regular season before playoffs begin.
