The John Paul II Jaguars continue their undefeated season in senior boys volleyball.
The boys are now a perfect 7-0 on the season after beating the Catholic Central Crusaders in four sets, and they’ve taken the division lead.
The Jags started off shaky against the Crusaders, losing the first set 26-24 before winning the next two, 25-10 and 25-20. They almost dropped the fourth set after trailing 24-23 on set point, but they managed to rattle off three straight points to close out the match.
“Blowing a big lead and then coming back in the fourth shows that they will dig deep when they have to,” says Frank Delle Donne, head coach of the Jaguars.
Delle Donne says at the start of the season, the goal for the team was to finish in the top three in the conference. That’s a virtual certainty at this point, but the coach says the team isn’t letting up yet.
“We always look at one set at a time. I don’t want them thinking ahead to anything else, because we haven’t reached [the finish]. We still have four league games to play,” Delle Donne says.
The Jaguars have beaten their opponents 21 sets to two this season.
