A memorial ball hockey tournament is taking place in London this weekend.
The 5th annual Dave Richards Memorial 4-on-4 Co-Ed Ball Hockey Tournament is also a fundraiser for the London Abused Women’s Centre.
Dave Richards was a teacher at Clarke Road Secondary before he lost his battle to cancer in 2010.
Fund Development Coordinator for LAWC Fabienne Haller says Richards was a big supporter of the Centre and would always be available when needed. Richards also ensured that female and male students were educated about abuse.
The tournament is a part of the month long Shine the Light on Women’s Abuse from the LAWC.
Haller tells XFM news that it is co-ed and is one of the only co-ed tournaments in Southwestern Ontario.
Over the past four tournaments about $10,000 has been raised for the London Abused Women’s Centre.
Haller says the deadline has passed to register a team however they may have a few openings. You can contact 519-455-2255 for more information.
Opening ceremonies are planned for 1 P.M at Ball Hockey International on Clarke Road.
