A Faculty of Education researcher from Western University has been appointed to the Order of Ontario.
Barb MacQuarrie was given the honour for her advocacy and work in the fields of violence against women, human rights, and social justice.
It is the province’s highest official honour and recognizes a resident of Ontario who has demonstrated a high level of individual excellence and achievement in a research field benefiting people.
“I am honoured and truly humbled to have received such a high commendation,” she says, “I would also like to say that my association with Western has really helped me to do a lot of my work. So, now I think this is a little bit of recognition back to Western for having provided that base of support for so many years.”
MacQuarrie’s career in advocacy has spanned more than 30 years. One of her projects include “Neighbours, Friends, and Family” which recognizes warning signs to domestic violence and has expanded in a second part to include the workforce.
MacQuarrie is looking forward to continuing her work in the field of domestic violence against women in the workplace.
