City Council will be reviewing a $40 million project for London, bringing together the YMCA and Westmount Public Library. If Council approves construction could start as early as September of 2016 and finish by September of 2018. William Coxhead is the Managing Director for Parks and Recreation for the City of London; he says that choosing Westmount Public library for the facility wasn’t a difficult decision, “geographically it just makes sense…it’s right around the corner…”
“We’re looking at creating opportunities for people to come together that we could share efficiencies and build a dynamic and responsive facility that might not have been built otherwise” Coxhead explains.
More recreational sites in the East and Southeast end of London will be introduced to the collaboration if the YMCA and Westmount Public Library goes through. Coxhead says they hope to continue expansion but it would a few years down the road.
