People usually see their public library as a place with a lot of books and a lot of people telling you to be quiet, but it is so much more than that. Yes, the London Public Library has several books, but you can rent studio rooms, DVDs, CDs and even take courses in several topics like Robotics, Spanish or french.
“You can get them through a library card. That’s free for all residents in London,” said Lily Boyd, who is the outreach librarian. All services available at the library are completely free, as long as you get a library card. If you’re looking to get one, head over to the branch closest to you. All you need is a proof of residence, and that can be a phone or hydro bill.
The Library also offers a lot for children and parents. If you’re a new parent, you can head over there and ask for books about parenting, and they’ll give you a package with all the books experts believe you may need. There is also a part of the library just for kids, with several books and others things children might like.
According to Boyd, music, TV shows, E books, audio books, indie films, newspapers and magazines are some of the online services the library provides. This service is made through a server called Hoopla, and it has started an alliance with the library in which you can stream 10 movies a month.
If you want to use Hoopla, you need to subscribe to it. All you need to do is go to the library’s website and click on Hoopla. Also, if you have a smartphone, there’s an app you can go to and subscribe. Once you are in the app, click on London Public Library and then enter your email address and your library card number.
