Fall is here, which means the thankful family season is upon us, with Thanksgiving weekend just passing. With this season comes many fun activities for friends, spouses, and of course families to partake in.
One of the most popular, is apple picking. With two popular apple orchards in London, families are sure to be able to enjoy this festivity without any distraction besides who may be picking the best apples.
Founder of AppleLand Station, Ernie, who also goes by Engineer Ernie as he drives the train around the station, said their motto is “your farm for fun, food, and family”. These three things have been a big part of the business, as well as the whole idea of apple picking.
Other local business, Crunican Brothers Orchards & Apple Store part-owner Phillip Crunican, said this activity is a family tradition to him because his family started the farm 100 years ago and will continue to do so.
“The store was opened in 1950, so before that, people actually came to the farm house and bought the apples out of the basement”, Crunican added, “there’s a few of those people still around”.
Both business owners agree they started apple picking as a kid and continue to do so because that’s all they know.
Ernie said a main factor in it is the local aspect, and supporting your local farmers.
