The 28-year-old man, mistakenly released from the London courthouse on Wednesday, is now back in Police custody.
Investigators say Raymond Versteeg returned to the courthouse Thursday morning and was taken back into custody peacefully.
Versteeg was in court on Wednesday for a bail hearing on charges of assault and for uttering threats when he was mistakenly released around 3 p.m. yesterday afternoon.
Police said that they believed he was a risk to public safety given his criminal record.
The circumstances of the release by the London Police Service continues to be investigated internally, according to a media statement.
This was the third time an inmate has escaped custody in London in the last four months.
In July, 19-year old Justin Kunz was on the run for two weeks. He allegedly tricked the guards on duty at EMDC into letting him escape by saying he was his cellmate who was legitimately due for release.
