As the temperatures drop and the snow falls, people wonder if getting a flu shot is really worth it. Despite a low count of flu cases in Middlesex-London, the Middlesex-London Health Unit says it’s better to be safe than sorry.
“It’s almost impossible to believe that we’ll only ever see six cases this flu season. It’s not too late to get the flu shot,” says Tristan Squire-Smith, Director of the health unit’s Infectious Disease Control Team, “It’s a safe vaccine, it’s free and it’s widely available.”
Along with getting the flu shot, he recommends covering your mouth when coughing, avoid preparing food and staying at home if you are sick. Squire-Smith says making sure you recover is key if you have the flu.
Two of the six flu cases seen since September 2015 were hospitalizations.
