The Toronto Maple Leafs have sent captain Dion Phaneuf to the Ottawa Senators in a 9-player deal.
In the deal – the Sens also get defenseman Cody Donaghey and forwards Matt Frattin, Casey Bailey as well as Ryan Rupert.
Toronto meanwhile receives defenseman Jared Cowen, along with forwards Milan Michalek, Colin Greening and Tobias Lindberg and a 2017 second round draft pick.
The big piece in the deal though is Dion. With 24 points in 51 games, the Sens will hope Phaneuf provides the final push needed to ascend Ottawa into post season contention.
Ottawa sits just four points out of an Eastern Conference playoff spot.
Toronto meanwhile, is currently in a three-way tie for dead last in the league along with the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Edmonton Oilers with 47 points.
