Thames Centre hockey player penalized after swinging stick at another player's head

It was more than just a high-sticking penalty for 36-year old Jason Ashton after he swung a hockey stick at another player’s head.

Middlesex County OPP were called just after 12 p.m. on February 14th in relation to a player who allegedly struck another player with a hockey stick during a game.

A 38-year old London man was taken to hospital to be treated with ‘serious non-life threatening’ injuries. Upon further investigation, police found out that that the player intentionally swung his stick at the other player when the play had already been developed.

The 36-year old Ashton from Thames Centre, Ontario has been charged with assault with a weapon, and assault causing bodily harm. He has been released by way of a Promise to Appear and is going to have his first court date on March 8th.
