Many families are wondering how their kids will spend March Break. A new service will make planning easier. From March 12 to 20, children between the ages of five and 12 years old can ride the bus for free. The London Transit Commission (LTC) brought in the service after requests from Councillors Mo Salih and Jesse Helmer.
“The idea came from hearing from residences about how there’s sometimes a financial hardship,” says Salih, who represents Ward 3 in London, “It’s an unfortunate thing for people to feel that they can’t get to those things because of a financial barrier.”
Salih adds the service will make young Londoners appreciate the city’s transit system, and is a more environmentally friendly way to travel than driving.
He says that children can feel free to stop by City Hall to speak to Councillors, along with many other programs offering March Break specials such as free admission to the Royal Canadian Regiment Museum.
Children between five and 12 usually pay about $1.35 each ride.
