The Ride or Stride for Autism was back at Greenway Park for the annual event.
Autism Ontario London organised this event to bring awareness to the spectrum and to findraise to help support programs for families that have autism.
Therapy can cost 60 thousand dollars a year for families to pay for their child to receive treatment.
Their are government grants and funds to help with this burden until the child hits the age of 18, and that is one of the key points that people in connection of autism, want to address. Wendy Richardson, a director of the Mom’s Support group had this to say about it “London does nothing, the adults with autism pretty much go in a black hole.”
Erin Peterson, an organizer of the Ride and Stride had this to say about it “the help that is out there for children with autism is amazing, but we got think about these children will become adults one day and without the support, that transition in their life becomes even harder to do”
Autism affects an estimated 1 our 94 boys and 1 out of 189 girls.
