The Shoebox Project for Shelters, collects and distributes gifts in the form of Shoeboxes to women who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness in communities across Canada and the US. Each Shoebox is filled with items valued at $50 that any woman will likely enjoy, but may not splurge on for herself in difficult times.
Michelle Foote, a coordinator at the Shoe Box Project in London explains what are appropriate gifts to put in your shoeboxes. ” To me the perfect shoe box is nice little gifts that these women would enjoy such as shampoo, mascara, mittens, toques, stuff like that.”
The shoe Box Project originally started in Toronto with four friends who decided they wanted to make a difference in women’s lives. The idea grew so much now that in only five years the Shoe Box Project has grown to Canada and the USA and looks to go overseas next.
The Shoebox Project is an opportunity to give back to someone in your community. This small gesture of kindness has an immediate and positive impact on the woman who receives it.
