The bowls may end up empty but your stomach will be full. The Empty Bowls fundraiser is celebrated their 5th annual event on Friday.
This year, local potters handcrafted and donated over 500 bowls. Ticket buyers then picked out a bowl they liked, and then filled it up with soup that was made and donated by local restaurants.
“Typically, the Potters Guild gets together, and we have potlucks where we join together and make and decorate bowls. There’s such a sense of community even leading up to the fundraiser that brings us together”, committee member, Christina Tischler, said when talking about the behind the scenes efforts.
This year, the London Clay Centre has teamed up with Youth Opportunities Unlimited. All of the donations made will be going to YOU to help them provide food security and education for at risk youth.
“I’ve really enjoyed just giving back to the community. It’s really great knowing that I can be involved in some little way, and donate my time and resources”, Tischler added.
She says this event is important because it is a step towards ending youth hunger, and it brings the community together.
