Raising a child can be difficult for anyone from the crying, the screaming, the late nights and just generally not knowing what your child wants.
But for this mother and her daughter they have found a way to make the communication part of raising a child a lot easier by going to sign language classes once a week. Amber Blackwood and her daughter have been attending these classes for a little while now and while her daughter still cant communicate with words she is now able to ask for simple this with her hands. Such things like asking for her toy horse to asking for more food and even the bath. Amber has an issue hearing and has a hearing aid to help and her other kids know how to reach her but she was worried about her youngest not being able to and Amber says that this has helped so much with that process of allowing her daughter a way to talk and get her attention.
Charlean Slaats-Gray owner of My Smart Hands London London and she runs the classes for the families interested in learning sign language. Charlean explains some of the positives to these lessons.
“one of them is the early communication, so what happens is the baby can tell you what they want when they want it. for example if you have a little one and they are saying ba, are they saying bottle are they saying ball what are they saying? So you do the sign with the word you never replace the sign with the word, so you do it in conjunction so when you do the sign for ball they are able to say ball”
Amber and her daughter are now going into the next level of the classes to learn more advanced words and make the communication between each other even more in depth before she is even able to speak a word
