Fanshawe College’s School of Design and Fanshawe College Alumni Association are to present Unbound 2018, a showcase of collections from 24 Fashion Design graduates.
Now in its 12th year, the show will be hosted at the Norton Wolf School of Aviation Technology.
Distinguished Canadian fashion designer David Dixon has been mentoring the students throughout their creative process, he said, “For Unbound 2018, the title surely fits, the fabric selections and the details created by both machine and the human hand are truly inspired.”
Unbound 2018 explores themes of fashion in the age of technology and the re-interpretation of past couture craft in a future of innovative advancement.
The emerging designers have spent their final semester developing their own five-look collections, ranging from casual and dressy daywear to outerwear and evening wear.
The designer said, “The graduates each have a distinct point of view; they are without limitations and are truly unbound.”
Unbound’s success has grown tremendously, with this year selling out to more than 350 guests.
Fashion Design professor Loren Carriere said, “Unbound is a celebration of innovation and design and is the concluding event of the 2018 graduating fashion designers’ academic journey.”
Notable fashion industry leaders from London and Toronto will be in attendance. The high-profile event will begin with a pre-show portfolio viewing, followed by New York-style runway show and a social reception.
Presented by the Fanshawe College Alumni Association, Unbound is made possible through community support and sponsorship, in collaboration with students and faculty from the following Fanshawe College programs: Special Event Planning, Fashion Marketing and Management, Theatre Arts, Music Industry Arts, Journalism – Broadcast, Hair Stylist, Police Foundation, Visual Effects and Editing for Contemporary Media, Broadcasting – Television and Film Production, Advanced Filmmaking and Broadcast Journalism – Television News.
The professor added, “This sold-out show brings together textiles and technology, craft and creation, past and future.”
