You can recycle plastic and paper, and cardboard. But did you know that right here in London, there are services to properly recycle your electronics, your appliances and even your scrap metal?
John Zubick is a company in London known for actually purchasing your scrap metal, in order for them to properly recycle them. They recycle things from cars, to aluminum crutches, to car rims, and even train wheels.
George Zubick, the President of the Zubick company, has been working this company for 54 years after taking it over from his family. And what his company does is processing scrap metals correctly after receiving them from companies and individuals, and then they sell the recycled metal to the mills.
And recycling these metals only come back to help us out. George gives facts about post-recycling. 
“Each year, 55% of lead consumed is from recycled lead. For each ton of steel you properly recycle, you save the energy equivalent of 2 and a half barrels of oil. For each ton of copper that you recycle you save the energy equivalent of 17 barrels of oil. Aluminum and magnesium, 40 barrels of oil per ton.”
And although people may not be aware that this is an option in London, George says that John Zubick over the past 25 years they have purchased, processed, and returned to the mills 2.5 million tons of material, proving that this really is important to recycle everything. Nothing at Zubicks gets thrown out.
Environmental responsibility is a huge key factor for Zubick. George Zubick explains how they do it.
“We design and maintain our site to be environmentally friendly. We even have our own water treatment centre on site to handle all the surface water off the property.”
