Social media has been focusing on a 69 year old man who is seeking to legally change his age
Emile Ratelband doesn’t feel comfortable with his real age, and claims that if he was 20 years younger he would have more opportunities. In a recent interview on Good Morning Britain, he stated that some of the opportunities he’s missing out on due to his age are buying houses, and tinder dates.
The Dutch man points out “If someone is born a certain gender and they want to change that, they can, so why can’t I change my age.” He adds that his doctor tells him that biologically he has the health and body of a man in his forties. “If you look at my bones, my joints, my heart, i’m more energetic then I used to be” he emphasized.
Ratelband claims that times are changing, and people are more accepting of these kind of things. “We can do whatever we like, we can choose our clothes, this is my belief.” This ‘belief’ was brought to court where the judge agreed with Ratelband once he compared his situation to those who identify as transgender, he says he would feel more ‘comfortable’ identifying as 20 years younger.
Lots of people understand where he is coming from, but local Fanshawe student Hannah Durham believes that the year he was born is a fact, and cannot be changed “Changing your gender is one thing, but you can’t change the year you were born” she continues “Act the age you want to act instead of doing it legally. Theres no need to convince people that you’re younger than you are.”
He has asked for his date of birth to be changed from 11 March 1949 to 11 March 1969
