The London Lightning and Head Coach Keith Vessell have mutually decided to part ways. The bolts got out to a hot 4-2 start and were tied for second best record in the league. However, the last two games have been blowout losses by over 20 points. Vassell was named Coach of the Month in January after going 7-2. The Lightning also went on a 12 game winning streak during his tenure. Vassell leaves with an impressive record of 53-28 and led London to a championship title in May 2018.
Elliott Etherington will take over coaching duties. Etherington comes back after being part of the coaching staff during last year’s championship team. In a statement, Etherington said he was excited to be back in London.
” I had a great opportunity last year and I’m appreciative to Vito Frijia (Lightning Owner) to give me the opportunity to come back here and continue our winning success in London. The great thing is that there’s a good mixture of guys that I’m comfortable with and guys I got to learn and that creates an awesome opportunity and challenge as a coach. I think all in all we have to focus on tough defense and our principals, make sure to be on the same page. If we can do all of that combined with positive energy and togetherness sky’s the limit for this team.”
