The Juno Awards are just a handful of weeks away, with many events coming up surrounding the award show. Preparations are underway, with many different individuals who are part of the team helping the city out.
Chris Campbell is the chair of the organizing committee for the award show, and is working hard with his team to ensure that when the Juno’s arrive that London is ready for any and everything.
“We’ve been preparing for this well before it was even announced last January. We have many teams in place, many action plans in place, and so far everything is unfolding according to plan. There are a lot of people working in different areas such as production, marketing, logistics, event set up.”
With so many people working on an event such as the Juno’s, it’s important that everything is taken care of. Many people think it’s only the Juno’s at Budweiser Gardens, but, there are many events surrounding the award show.
“There’s different venues, and many different events, about 60 to 70 different events happening all over the city, with a huge variety of musical genres and events, and lots to unfold in the upcoming 53 days.”
Campbell adds that London was very fortunate to hold the Juno Awards in March, since cities similar to London aren’t typically a choice when picking the location.
“It’s the largest cultural event in Canada. Traditionally, it’s an event that only goes to NHL sized cities: Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa, so it doesn’t traditionally come to what you would call your “mid-sized markets”. The last time would’ve been probably St. John, Newfoundland, that was amazing because it took over the city, and I think it’s going to take over London.”
Although not much information has been given about the Juno Awards, other than Loud Luxury being one of the performers, Campbell wants Londoners to be assured that announcements are coming very soon.
“There will be a lot of exciting announcements over the next few weeks, nationally here, and of course nomination day is January 29th, so that’s when all the nominees are announced. After that, you’ll start hearing a lot more commitments and conformations performers, and who’s hosting.”
There is one thing specifically that London should look very forward to in the upcoming weeks, aside from hearing about who will be performing and hosting the award night.
“I think that Juno Fest will have the biggest impact on London. It’ll be taking over about 18 bars, for 2 days, with over one hundred bands. 70 to 80% of them will be Juno nominated bands, you think about that, bands playing live music, the best bands in Canada playing in 18 bars at once in London, that’s pretty incredible.”
Tickets are still available at Budweiser Gardens, but will be selling out quickly once the announcements start being released. The Juno Awards take place on March 17.
