The London Knights had their own Christmas Miracle on Teddy Bear Toss night Sunday. With the Knights down 4-2 to the North Bay Battalion with just over 3 minutes to play, Max Domi exploded. The Knights Captain set up Michael McCarron for the 4-3 goal, then sniped home one of his own to tie the game at 4 just over a minute later. Domi struck again in overtime to seal the comeback in a 5-4 win.
Domi had points on all five of London’s goals. He now leads the OHL in scoring with 58 points. Mitch Marner had a goal and an assist as well, he now moves ahead of the injured Connor McDavid for 3rd in the OHL with 53 points. Christian Dvorak scored the Teddy Bear Toss goal that saw 9,077 stuffed animals thrown on to the ice, all of which will be donated to the Salvation Army.
North Bay was able to hold the London Knights to just one 5 on 5 goal. The Knights scored both of their late 3rd period goals on 2 man advantages (3 man advantages with the goalies pulled). If there was one problem for the Knights it was that they fell into North Bay’s trap far too easily, and had they not been given 2 long powerplays towards the end of the game, they may not have had this happy ending.
Nonetheless, the Knights were the ones who were able to draw these penalties and force North Bay to make mistakes late in the game.
The Knights sit in 2nd in the Midwest after the game, and hit the road to take on the Sarnia Sting on Thursday.
