An adaptive cooking program run by a volunteer staff takes place every Thursday at the Lamplighter Inn, allowing people who have any type of disability the opportunity to be successful in a kitchen. The program is designed for those on a small budget, using 5 ingredients or less.
Founders of the program Brenda Ryan and close friend Anne Robertson have created a close community in the kitchen. Brenda, who herself has a disability, says people in the disabled community have been marginalized for many years therefore it’s important to have a program where people can overcome their challenges in the best possible environment.
Brenda adds the program runs at no cost to the participants, as a result of the help from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, Best Western Lamplighter Inn, and the community. In Fact, Brenda says if it wasn’t for the help of the community and dedicated volunteers, none of it would have been possible.
