On Wednesday, students and staff of Fanshawe College displayed their research at the 4th annual Research and Innovation Day.
Research and Innovation Day is an annual exhibition of student and staff research projects and celebrates the creativity and success of the campus community. People were welcome to submit their research projects ahead of time to be displayed on the day.
Dan Douglas is the Dean of Research for Fanshawe College and says they saw research from a variety of fields.
“Everything from activities around early childhood education and some of our health and human services area, through to business and contemporary media and design, and right into our technologies.”
As well, the most enticing benefit to partaking were the cash prizes! Judges assessed each project based on specific criteria and awarded a variety of cash prizes of up to $1,000 to the chosen winners. Also, new this year was an Entrepreneurship Award of $1,000 awarded to a chosen student.
To finish off the day, the community was invited to attend a keynote address and panel discussion entitled The Importance of Research and Innovation to Economic Development.
Some of the speakers included:
– Ed Holder, Minister of State (Science and Technology)
– Paul Hubert, City of London Councillor and Deputy Mayor
– Glen Burston, technical operations manager of Hudson Boat Works
– Kapil Lakhotia, president and chief executive officer of London Economic Development Corporation
The day was an excellent opportunity for the college to showcase the best in student and staff work.
