The senate meeting held on Friday, April 10th was eventful due to the recent scandal regarding Western President Amit Chakma and his double pay.
Protestors gathered outside the meeting demanding answers and once the meeting was underway some stood and turned their backs as the President was speaking.
Both senate and community members were given the oppertunity to ask questions and voice their concerns where Chakma responded, “I have made a mistake and I am profoundly sorry” along with promising to meet with faculty and students to review concerns and collective aspirations.
The senate and the Western Alumni association expressed their thanks towards the apology that was given and their support in the president and his vision towards the future.
Many members of the crowd felt that the apology was genuine but do not feel his leadership is what’s best going forward.
