Uber London has a new ally on the London City Council. Ward 4 councilor Jesse Helmer is taking a stand for Uber saying that London’s by-laws should be changed to allow Uber to operate legally.
“We as a city have to regulate in the public interest, and not protect any one kind of business model,” Says Helmer.
The Councilor says that he supports the taxi industry, but he also supports an open market, noting that the city has to take all sides into account and make a decision that supports the public.
“I do think that we will have to make some changes, what exactly those changes will be…we’ll have to have a full discussion on it”.
Helmer also says that talks would occur between industry representatives and the public before a desicion is made.
