Pulse spin studio is a small cycling studio inside a house in Wortley Village. The studio only consists of about 10 bikes, but their motivation to help those in need is so powerful.
Every year, Pulse studio (run by Monica Hodgson and her husband), work with volunteers to give bikes to those who need them most. In previous years, Pulse spin studio has donated bikes to different London Charities, Primarily Community Living London.
This year, they decided to open up the Big Bike Giveaway to the YMCA as there are many low income families within the YMCA, and to welcome them to Wortley Village, since a YMCA facility is opening in the area next year.
The YMCA has just launched the Big Bike Giveaway earlier this week. Monica Hodgson states, “The reaction has been fantastic. If you go the the centre branch of the YMCA you can fill out a card and you can nominate someone who is deserving of a bicycle, tell their story and submit it to the management there. They will then decide who to bring in for the 20 bicycles we’re giving away.”
Pulse spin studio strives to get youth into fitness, no matter what their financial situation. They also participate in the YMCA’s annual “Spin for strong kids”, which is a spin-a-thon in which all the money collected goes to the YMCA charity.
Although Pulse Spin Studio is small and has only been around for about two years, their motivation to help make a difference in local deserving charities is so inspiring. Monica says “People often say Pulse is the business of giving, and that’s exactly what we’ve changed our mindset to. We have a lot more fun giving to the community and watching those smiling faces than we do profiting.”
