Chatham-Kent police were dispatched to Delaware Avenue in Chatham shortly before 1 a.m. Tuesday morning for a traffic complaint.
Police say a man was operating a forklift on the roadway with no functioning lights. An officer found the man travelling eastbound on McNaughton Avenue and immediately arrested the man.
Upon investigation, the officer believed the man was driving the forkllift while under the influence of alcohol.
He is currently detained at police headquarters for breath tests.
The 24-year old was charged with impaired driving, driving while disqualified and two counts of driving while under suspension.
Police say he will be released when sober and officers are continuing to investigate where the man acquired the fork lift.
