Five people including the driver of a ‘Voyageur’ bus were immediately rushed to hospital following a three vehicle collision.
London Police have closed down a section of the northbound lane of Highbury Ave. following the crash.
Police and EMS received a call shortly after noon and rushed to the scene and pulled injured people from the bus that was flipped on its right side in the ditch.
Debris and pieces of metal were scattered all over the road, with pieces of the engine of the van and front end glass completely shattered.
Constable Ken Steeves of the London Police service says that police are continuing to investigate to try to figure out what happened, “We arrived on scene and we found that three vehicles were involved, the minivan has some rear-end damage, the Voyageur bus with front and rear-end damage and it was found flipped on its side in a ditch and a pick-up truck with extensive front-end damage.”
“Five passengers, including the driver, from the van have been taken to hospital and the occupants from the other two vehicles have not been taken,” says Constable Steeves. “It’s currently unknown as to what happened, but we are interviewing everyone involved to determine exactly what happened.”
“Charges are possible, we are still in the early stages of the investigation though. At this point two passengers from the bus sustained serious injuries in the crash.”
Constable Steeves says that weather did not play a factor. The northbound lane of Highbury Ave. will be closed until about 5:30 p.m. when all of the debris can be cleaned up. One person remains in ‘critical condition’.
