After an 18 month battle with cancer, former Toronto mayor Rob Ford has died at age 46.
Ford was in Palliative care at Mount Sinai Hospital as of this morning to help deal with pain and discomfort due to chemotherapy.
His brother Doug Ford says he’s always been a fighter and the family had been holding on to hope that he would continue to fight.
They were calling his state “a little rest”, before getting back up on his feet.
Ford had been in the news quite a bit in the last couple years, including the announcement of his diagnosis of pleomorphic liposarcoma, a rare form of soft tissue cancer.
Ford had undergone multiple rounds of chemotherapy and was apparently cancer free as of last May. In late October, 2015 doctors confirmed cancer had returned, and this month his condition was labelled critical.
Rob Ford leaves behind his wife, Renata, and two children.
