#fitspo is a trending topic online.
Social media users use this hashtag as a way to get fitness inspiration for the gym. There is a new wave of fitness fanatics. People in the fitness world are taking training to extreme levels– working out daily, meal planning and using weight-loss teas to achieve their ideal weight and physique.
Michael Clegg is a former fitness model. Clegg got hooked on the gym as the result of being ill as a child. Now the owner of Connect Athletics & Rehabilitation Centre, Clegg understands the importance of balance.
What does #fitspo mean to the former fitness model? Clegg says, “Well obviously I think the first thing anybody thinks of is Instagram, right? I think that it has a lot of connotations to it that people automatically assume. I think really at the end of the day it’s just someone who’s gonna inspire other people to become more fit and live a healthier lifestyle.”
As a personal trainer, Clegg always tells his clients that in order to achieve your fitness goals, it takes time. No matter what #fitspo you have, progress doesn’t happen over night, “You really have to build a relationship with your body. A lot of people want too much progress too quickly.”
Clegg adds that working out to attain your #fitspo shouldn’t be a chore, “If you aren’t doing something that you’re enjoying, then why are you doing it?”
