The new “Tap and Pay” features on your credit or debit cards is definitely the most convenient way to pay, but also the easiest way for someone to breach your account. The “Tap and Pay” has made it easier than ever for someone to simply “scan” your account info and breach your information.
Clive Wright an IT Professor at Fanshawe explains that to keep you safe from these hackers you must use an RFID wallet.
” The easiest way to protect yourselves from these hackers is to use an RFID protective wallet, which blocks out the signals hackers use to get into your information.”
RFID-blocking wallets are designed to help insulate you from a very particular brand of electronic pickpocketing, called RFID skimming.
Of course there are other ways to protect yourself from these hackers, simply using the pin for your credit card or even the swipe while paying at the counter. You should always check your credit card statements and your bank information every so often just to make sure that everything is in order and nobody has breached your accounts.
