Internships are right around the corner for many students here at Fanshawe College and this will start the transition into a career. Internships are a period of work experience for a student which can either be paid or unpaid. But is it worth it to go on an unpaid internship for a student and what are the benefits of doing an internship? That is what we are going to find out.
Many students are looking into internships at the moment as it is a requirement for many programs. But what they don’t know is the experiences that they can gain.
Internships are also a good way for students to feel what work life is really like. Journalism students are going to need to know the RTDNA code of ethics before going into an internship because if they don’t they could actually get into trouble. The code of ethics consists of accuracy, equality, authenticity and many other rules for journalists. The full list can be found on the RTDNA website.
Students who are looking to gain a leg up against the competition should gain from an internship. Employers will be happy to see that the student has had some work experience rather than none at all. And for many students your internship may lead to a job but your focus should be on learning.
