At Fanshawe College’s London campus, a small crowd gathers outside F building around a flag poll. After some short speeches, The Fanshawe College flag is brought down and a new Fanshawe flag baring the colours of the LGBTQ+ community is placed along side it. Once raised the two flags fly side by side, a symbolic message to all students and the London community of Fanshawes never
ending commitment to the inclusion of people of all orientations.
Speaking to XFM news Andrew Waterworth from Fanshawes Student Union said “The flag lets students know they are welcomed and won;t be shunned by the decisions they make.”
This symbolic act kicks of London Ontario’s Pride week running until July 29th when Fanshawe College will join the rest of London for the pride parade.
Until then daily events will take place to ensure the London community know that it welcomes diversity from all walks of life.
