Fanshawe hopped on the goat yoga trend Wednesday evening. Fanshawe’s SUB courtyard was packed full of adorable goats dressed in T-Shirts and tutus as well as excited students fighting for the perfect selfie. Prior to the event, all the tickets sold out rapidly causing the Fanshawe Student Union to open up 50 more spots.
The goats were friendly and inquisitive and students got to take pictures, pet, cuddle and of course perform yoga stretches with the goats.
The goats came from Full Circle Ranch, and goat owner, Morrigan Reilly said that they host public goat yoga classes every Wednesday. She thinks goats are the perfect addition to yoga as they are extremely playful animals that can make exercise fun. She has a special place in her heart for baby goat, Wendy, who was dressed in a polka dot tutu.
“One of the special ones is Wendy. She’s the little one in the little tutu over there. Wendy actually came out not breathing so we did CPR on her and then she actually lived in the house for a couple of weeks because she was sick. She was tube fed and she actually thinks she’s more like a dog than a goat… But they all have their different personalities.”
Wendy followed Reilly around throughout the entire event and managed to escape through a crack in the fence just to chase after her.
The goats seemed to enjoy the event and the crowd of students was certainly full of excitement and laughs. FSU Events Coordinator, Tyler Hetherington was responsible for planning the event and thought that goats would be perfect for students who may be missing home.
“One of the things that we always hear from students that are first years a lot is that they’re missing their home pets, so we do a lot of programs here where we bring pets in to de-stress students so we’re hoping that the goat edition to the yoga absolutely kind of fills that void for some of them that are missing their dog or their cat in their first week of school”
The event was a success and students are hoping that goat yoga returns to Fanshawe soon to help de-stress when they need it.
