Dragon Boat teams from London are making the trip to Stratford to compete at the Rotary Dragon Boat Festival this weekend. Three teams will be there to represent London and other teams come from all over the province, ranging from Ottawa to Toronto and smaller communities. This is the 23rd year of the Festival is being held in Stratford. There are 51 teams raising funds for Rotary respite house, mental health and other local charities and projects. Over 2-thousand people are expected to be visiting Stratford for the races today, combined with teams and spectators. Cathy Rehberg is the Marketing Manager for Stratford and says it is a big event that has contributed a lot of donations. Over the years the Rotary club has raised over 8 hundred thousand dollars just from the Dragon Boat Festival.
“It is very special. I think a lot of cancer survivors and breast cancer survivors have worked together, that comradery and the trust in friendship that builds up among the paddlers is a really important part.”
