Western Student Council is making an attempt to minimize the annual fake homecoming numbers by announcing the Purple Fest concert on the same date.
As the third annual FOCO is quickly approaching, Western student council have created an event to hopefully decrease the numbers on Broughdale Avenue.
Students will have the option to attend Grammy-nominated rapper Lil Uzi Vert, who is headlining during fake homecoming on September 29. The goal of Purple Fest is to deter party-goer students, while providing a safe but enjoyable alternative.
“We really wanted to focus on how we could prioritize student spirit while also emphasizing safety,” says USC President Mitchell Pratt. Pratt had mentioned that numbers were at a all time high at Broughdale Avenue last year which is why the council has created an alternative option.
The magnitude and size of Lil Uzi Vert has truly attracting a large crowd, with nearly 5000 tickets sold within the first week. According to Pratt, there were a lot of phone calls and time spent to reach out to the artist, but he believes it’s ideal to create a culture shift around homecoming weekend.
Whether the event will be a success will be up to the students.
