A new project by the London Public Library is hoping to bring more people back into the library.
“The Labs” is a new media department located in the Central branch downtown. The grand opening for the project was held on Sept. 29, and played host to many “The Labs” feature audio and video labs to record and edit, spaces to use sewing equipment, and a 3D printer. Classes on how to use the software are also available.
Digital Literacy facilitator for the London Public Library Alan Thomson, says that the library has more plans to meet the demands of modern audiences, and hopes this project will bring in more people who typically don’t go to the library that often.
“We’re going to have a creative area too where people can come and use a series of iMacs available with Cloud services, so they can use things like Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator.”
Thomson also adds that all funding for this project came from private sponsors.
“$150,000 was donated, as well as contributions matched by the library to provide the equipment in this area.”
