Thanksgiving is just the beginning of the busy holiday season. Holidays can cause stress and overshadow the true meaning of being with family, being thankful and appreciative. But Fanshawe’s Pioneer Village is taking Londoner’s back to a simpler time in history this weekend.
Alison Deplonty, Interpretation Coordinator says they focus on the importance of family, sharing stories and just spend quality time together.
“It’s important to create some memories together, especially this time of year when people are starting to feel a little bit of a disconnectedness as we start to get busy in these next couple of months.”
There is always a hustle and bustle state of mind around the holidays. Many people get caught up in the hype and commercialized side of celebrating the holidays. Deplonty says we need to bring back togetherness, stay connected with each other and disconnect from our phones and technology once in awhile.
“Pioneers and the early settlers, their lives were always very busy with all the chores and the tasks that they had to complete. They also had a very big sense of family and sense of community. That’s something a lot of people see our communities are lacking these days.”
Whether it’s present day or a hundred years ago, the value of family and community remains the same. Thanksgiving serves as a yearly reminder to celebrate that. Take a break from the cooking and cleaning this weekend and step back in time with your family at the Fanshawe Pioneer Village this Thanksgiving. Events at the village take place Saturday through Monday. To see more what you can do this weekend, visit their website
