Canadian postal workers are threatening to strike as soon as Oct. 22.
Canadian Union of Postal Workers Karen Finley Russell says that they want to try and loosen the burden the job can bring.
“We have some workers that work over twelve hours a day and well into the evenings. They sacrifice seeing their families and their health and safety.”
As well as better working conditions, members of the union are hoping for better wages, gender equality, and security for their jobs and the future of Canada Post.
Russell says this has potential to be a long strike,
“At this point of the year we’ve been debating for ten months- almost a year at the negotiating table, and there really hasn’t been any movement on some of the major issues.”
If a strike does happen, it would be a rotating strike. This would have different cities being on strike at different times throughout the negotiating process. This would allow some deliveries to be made, but Russell says a delay should be expected.
