Lots of people have their own opinions on driving school, some people choose to do it for their own benefit, some people are forced to from their parents, and some people would rather avoid drivers ed because they feel more comfortable learning with their parents.
Drive wise instructor Denis Raymond explains why learning to drive with parents may not be the best thing for everyone
“Some parents are nervous to drive with their kids, and when you have a nervous passenger it makes the driver nervous so its always good to learn with someone you’re not related to”
Dennis Raymond also emphasizes that London is one of the most difficult cities to drive in
“The reason is the 401 is too far, your always stopped at a red light , if your late people tend to be more aggressive, its frustrating it really is.”
He explains that because of this, drivers growing up in London should take the extra driving lessons to be prepared for the more aggressive drivers in this city
Zack is just one of the many young drivers that chose to learn from his parents
“driving school is really useful but you can be a good driver without it, because in driving school they definitely teach you things you need to know but they also go overboard and teach you things that you can learn from experience”
He believes that they did a better job of making sure he didn’t accumulate too many bad habits
“my parents are good drivers, them having a lot of experience rather than teachers that just take a book and use a curriculum, its better to learn that way. Plus im saving money”
Driving school is a major cost that some can’t afford, Zack explains that he saved money and got a more hands on experience by choosing not to go through driving school
Hannah Durham on the other hand, feels the opposite. She explains that driving school taught her up to date safety protocols, where as her parents didn’t have these types of rules when they first got their licenses
“my parents taught me their ways of driving, but its hard because back in the day it was a lot different you didn’t need your g1, g2 it was just one thing, people that are my parents ages and above know how to drive but they just have a different rule set. Texting and driving and drinking and driving it wasn’t as much of a big deal back then, so I think that even though my parents did help me, having someone that is up to date on safe driving today was more beneficial to me than just my parents would’ve been.”
The choice to do drivers ed ultimately depends on your situation, whether its a financial struggle, or just a simple choice. Drive wise instructor Dennis explains what he would say to someone choosing not to take the extra lessons, to change their mind
