The Canadian Senate announced last night that postal workers would be forced to return to work.
Here in London before the announcement local workers gather at depot 5 on Waterman ave in a last ditch effort to sway the Senates decision. While picket lines braved the cold and rain, occupying strikers inside the depot continuously reached out to their senators through email and by phone.
“The forced overtime has to stop, it impacts our safety and our families.” Karen Finlay-Russell local president of CUPW said during the occupation on Monday. “One women even told me that her kids think she’s a bad mom because she works 12 or 14 hour days.
Despite their last stand the senate announced Monday night that workers would be forced to return to work after a 5 week rotating strikes. The back to work order could be in effect as early as noon today. Across the country come workers are still out on picket lines until the order takes effect.
