It’s the season of giving, but what should you give?
New and flashy technology may seem tempting to impress your loved ones, but tech expert, Jalen Phillip, says it’s important to keep your loved one’s interests in mind.
“There is such a large spectrum of technology available that can suit different needs. You have super cool kitchen appliances, to great TVs, and all of the computer gear. What may seem like the coolest gift to one person, may have no use to another.”
According to Phillip, one technology that seems to be popular this year is home assistant devices, like Google Home and Amazon Echo.
“Smart homes are really amazing. With your voice, you can control your lighting and temperature, it’s really cool. That’s where technology comes in handy, it’s all about convenience and efficiency, and these devices help make life easier.”
If home assistant devices are out of your price range, there are still many tech gifts that can help your loved one’s day to day life.
Phillips laughs at Pop Sockets, a small device used to help keep your phone in your hand and off the ground, but says they’re a hot item.
“Things like that come in, and we think ‘Wow this is dumb’, but then people love it. Those things sell like crazy. Sometimes it’s small things that we don’t realize we need, but once it’s offered to us, it’s like we can’t live without it.”
Another cool item is the Tile, perfect for your friend of family member who can’t keep track of their keys! This nifty gadget helps find any commonly misplaced item with the help of bluetooth tracking.
When buying for loved ones, or yourself, Phillips says to not focus on what you see other people buying in store and keep your budget in mind.
“One guy might be getting at 65” TV, while you’re looking at a 32” TV, but don’t let that change your interests. There’s no need to size up against other buyers, focus on your needs or your loved ones needs and what’s best in your circumstance.”
While technology may always be changing, the spirit of giving remains the same.
“There are so many cool products on the market right now, I’m sure that no matter what you decide get someone they’ll be appreciative.”
