“After hearing about how girls are being approached I was shocked and a bit scared because I myself usually end up closing so one of the last people to leave Masonville mall. But the most I can do right now is stay alert. I believe as a community we can keep spreading awareness about this problem and keep informing the local police if we see people doing this and hopefully all of this will help with the trafficking issue.”
this is just one of the many Londoners reaction towards the human trafficking issues that continues to grow happening here in London. Just recently London police have charged 25 man with obtaining sexual services for consideration, trafficking a person under the age of 18 and misleading police. Just 24 of the girls that were recruited were form London. Just recently many people have been getting approached by men and women asking them if they interested in purchasing perfumes and talking them back to their van. and these scene are talking place mostly at grocery story or the Masonville mall.
Melanie is a store manager at Masonville that usually close late, she share her opinion saying “It’s disgusting – and the police aren’t “able” to do anything because selling products isn’t illegal. But what about harassment and making women feel uncomfortable. What if someone were to use self defence and punch one of the people trying to lure them into smelling their perfume, would they then be charged with assault? There’s got to be some way to take control.
No woman should ever be used to traffic. Especially in a country where we are supposed to be peace makers and there for each other.”
human trafficking is a crime and a human rights abused, and here in London it’s growing by the min. The public is being warned to stay alert and have a buddy system when leaving work late at night.
