Food is the fuel that gives us the energy to get through the day. A good way to get started is to eat breakfast before going to school or work. Many people will argue that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But there is a significant portion of people that don’t eat anything in the morning before going about their day. There are many factors that contribute to why someone wouldn’t eat anything in the morning.
“I usually don’t eat anything in the morning because I don’t really have time before I go to class,” says Sam Muise, who ironically is a culinary student at Fanshawe. “I’m usually not hungry in the morning so I mostly just wait for lunch.”
Eating breakfast can lead to health benefits, as well as increased productivity according to most studies.
“Studies have found that having a healthy and balanced breakfast before going about your day increases productivity and self-reported alertness,” says Nesrine Chiekh, a dietician at Synergy Health. “And the recommended diet path for the rest of the day is to eat smaller amounts of food more frequently, about every 2 hours or so.”
Eating an apple or granola bar in the morning is better than nothing, but a balanced breakfast that includes protein and fruits is a much better option.
