Anthem is the latest loot based shooter to experience the woes which are now expected from this genre upon release, however coupling these issues with the bugs in the game can make a play through frustrating, demoralizing and almost impossible to finish.
That doesn’t mean it’s all cloudy sky’s for Anthem though because when the game doesn’t plague you with connection errors or insane amounts of rubber banding like you’ll see in this video, the game-play is a lot of fun.
Flying around Anthems beautiful world is an experience that will never get old and combat utilizes a some interesting team dynamics with element based gadgets that allow you to pull off combos
That however is the best part of this game, which leads me into some of the games problems, for this section I will not discuss the many bugs in the game but will state that connection errors and rubber banding are a random issue i have experience enough times to really pull me out of the experience.
Anthem was born out of Bioware studio who is known for their great storytelling made a bold attempt to include rich character development in Anthem. but getting to know these characters often forces you back to the fort area breaking your immersion.
The biggest issue that Anthem has though is the lack of variation in Loot, This game is relying on longevity through a loot grind but the weapons you start the game with look and feel almost identical to the “Masterwork” items you get at the end. Your javelin also doesn’t look much different in the end either. Anthem would greatly benefit from more eye popping weapons and gear in it’s loot drops.
Sadly Anthem is getting shot in the leg as soon as it left the gate by both the developer and the community but this isn’t uncommon in Looter Shooters Destiny and Destiny 2 both had similar issues at launch and have since grown to become great loot based games, the same with the Division. Anthem is just the latest in the genre to undergo these challenges and I have no doubt that as long as Bioware and EA continue to support this game that it will one day become the game that it deserved to be at launch
