Yoga is a mental, spiritual and physical practice that has spanned generations with roots in ancient India.
There is a unique yoga studio in Thorndale ON, with four goats that are an addition to each class.
Owners Susan Ashley and Laura Munro opened Laughing Goat Yoga Studio in July 2018, having no idea what the turn out would be. “We knew what we were doing, but we had no clue who would actually show up to classes,” says Ashley.
There was no need to fear for Ashley and Munro as the yoga studio took off pretty much from day one. What attracts most individuals to the studio is the four melatonin goats that roam around the class. Elliot, Charlie, Oliver and Zoe make up “the herd” who bring a bit of a twist to each yoga class.
“We tell people if one of the goats is near you, just pause your pose and pet them, or sit with them, they are here to entertain and reduce stress for everyone.”
The idea came to Ashley’s mind in February 2018, just after the 55 year old retired, because she knew she still wanted to do “work” of some kind. She says she watched a lot of Youtube videos, and input from friends really persuaded her to go through with it. Munro is more the “brains” of the operation dealing with the website, bookings, signage and anything IT related.
The goats are not trained, so yes sometimes they do make a mess which is why Susan Ashley is involved in every class following the goats closely and cleaning up after they are done their business.
There will be two more goats added to the herd come spring as the love of goat yoga continues to grow in the London area.
Both Munro and Ashley encourage London natives to come an experience new yoga experience at the studio located at Laughing Goat Lane in Thorndale.
