You never know when someone will need your help. That’s why Dr. Katelyn Butler-Birmingham teaches CPR and First Aid classes for Can-fit Pro in London. Medical procedures often go through changes, this includes how to perform CPR properly for the most efficient way and best results. Birmingham says updates and changes are usually made every year to CPR procedures for consistency.
“Thirty compressions to two breaths and that’s across the board now for adults and kids. That’s what people are being taught and I think this really helps students learning to transfer their knowledge to real life and they don’t have to remember a whole ton of different compression and breath values when they’rein an emergency situation.”
Although there have been changes and updates to the way CPR is performed, the importance of knowing these skills remains.

CPR can make the difference between life and death when performed correctly. Birmingham says CPR is crucial to perform, even when Emergency Services have been called.
“Students learn to keep track of how many cycles of CPR they have done. So when EMS does arrive, they have an idea of how long you’ve been doing CPR and what needs to be done next to hopefully save that persons life. “
Birmingham encourages everyone take a CPR, First Aid and AED course to become certified.
“You just never know what could come up, it could be your own family member and often is somebody that you know. Having that knowledge (of CPR training) makes me feel a lot more secure and safe.”
