High quality shoes vs low quality shoes
There are tons of shoe companies out there and also tons of different designs of shoes. Some may be made for comfort over style and some other ones may be looking for style over comfort. When trying to figure out if the shoe is really worth buying and if the quality is “as good” as they say they are there are some tell tale signs that your shoe is of the highest quality
- “Touch and hold the shoe.” Have a close look at the way the shoe is bound to the sole. If you see glue down there that’s not so good. And check that everything is sealed properly. You should see a clean edge and a seamless finish on the shoe
- “Examine the stitching. This gives you clues as to how sturdy the shoe will remain.” Essentially what you should be looking for is straight and tight stitching around the shoe. And hope that the stitching itself has a protective layer to it.
- “Scratch the surface of the leather to check it has been tanned well.” This would only apply to dress shoes or any shoe made with leather. Typically they tan the leather on the soe to give it a sharper look. Scratch it a little and if the colour is the same as underneath then the shoe is detailed well
Now when seeing if the shoe is actually worth your purchase you want to do a Cost per wear analysis. Basically think about how much your going to wear the shoe and the use your going to get out of it. If it’s worth the price then purchase.
Owner of Taliz footwear Jeremy Stephens explains what he believes is the difference. “It really depends what shoe your looking at for me personally i know where all these shoes are made so i have a pretty good idea. For the day to day buyer i would say feel around the shoe and ask questions before you buy it”
A Lot of the cheaply made shoes lie in the shoes that are made in mass quantities. If you know a company is rolling out thousands of the same shoe model chances are they weren’t made with alot of delicate hands. What they will do is save on quality because the quantity is so high. And what that does is covers them for any wasted material they may have to use throughout the shoe process.
If you remember all these when you go to purchase your shoe you will be in a way better position to come out with a good deal for yourself
